What can I say that isn’t in a million other reviews? So I’ll probably just repeat it. Best quality smoked and grilled meat I’ve ever had at any other BBQ establishment- it restored my faith and craving in BBQ and is still at the top of the list for me. The variety of sauces just give fuel to the fire that is my fantasy when I haven’t been there in a while. Two sandwiches get mention: The reason for bacon on slow-roasted pork (not shredded- big chunks of moist delicious smoked pork all up in your mouth!) You drizzle some apple BBQ on top, and the flavors swish in your palette. The other favorite is the yardbird. I don’t know why I ordered the chicken BBQ sandwich because it sounds boring- but I can tell you that now it’s hard to order anything else! It comes mixed in a sweet BBQ mustard sauce with cheese, bacon, and sauteed mushrooms and these flavors meld perfectly. On the side: Share both waffle fries and mac and cheese with a friend (the mac and cheese to rule all others with a peppery kick, crusty cheese top and gooey goodness within). Shockingly, the side salad is worth getting- fresh veggies and interesting flavors come from fresh fennel and their noteworthy tomato vinaigrette. I’ve met a couple of people who don’t like Slows BBQ, and it only proved that they weren’t ‘friend’ material. If you love meat and BBQ then Slows IS your thing.
Way back in the day (like five years ago) they used to give you two bread options. One being the kaiser roll and the other being texas toast. They cut some corners and made their texas toast out of regular bread. We miss their actual thick, garlic-butter texas toast. Bring it back and I'll be a born again gluten eater. Slow's Website *There will be more photos posted once I filter through my photo library. Slows deserves more photos.

Alright, well I don't want to waste my time on this review. I am just not a fan of Cafe Muse. I used to go here when I was new to Royal Oak because they have tons of reviews and everyone says they are good. I think they do have good food and it photographs well. Meaning that whoever is putting it together knows how to plate it. Yes, Oprah Winfrey said the grilled cheese was amazeballs. Cool.
I just don't think it lives up to the hype. For some reason (this is my own peev), I just don't like the seating of it. It doesn't feel comfortable to me. I don't mind being crammed into a small restaurant. There are plenty of small restaurants I love such as Monty's Grill. If you've been there you know what I mean... it's smaller than small. It's hard for me to eat here because they don't have gluten-free options. They used to have a hash. I think it was a special at the time I went, but they don't always have it. They should make it a permanent menu dish. Cafe Muse to me just seems like they are just making it on their old rep alone. We have so many other excellent brunch places in the area. I don't know why one would waste time (they normally have a wait) and money on this place. Go somewhere else if you want a hearty meal like One Eyed Bettys, Maes, Breakfast Club, Beverly Hills Grille... You will pay just the same amount at these places or less and get BETTER food. Take a chance and trust me on this one. :) If you want sliders then you go to the place that serves an abundance of good sliders. It's like if you want BBQ you go to Slows or it's somewhat equals. If you haven't been then you need to get there. It's in a kind of dodgy part of Detroit, but go during lunch and don't be scurrrrrred.
They have a list of sliders that you can try. They have some safe choices and some interesting choices. If you are in the mood to be a dare devil and impress your friends try the mystery meat. Like Forrest Gump said, "you never know what you're gonna get." Pair your sliders with rosemary fries and little sweet potato salad (refreshing and comes cold). I quite like all of the sliders except the fish. The fish was cold and seemed stale. It was sent back and Green Dot, being a business with class, came out and offered us vouchers for a couple free sliders when we come back. I think that's good business. I will keep coming back because they are classy and they serve up some of the best sliders in town! When you are looking at the menu you will probably think, "oh man! This place is cheeeeeap!" Yeah, it is... at 3 bucks a slider. BUT you can't just have one. 3 bucks times 7 items for yourself tallies up. Maybe I just order too much... if you've been there you understand. My recommendation is to order everything on the menu. Why not? Try them all out! Green Dot Stable's Website My faves: Truffle and her fries, coney slider, fried bologna, hot brown, bct, cheeseburger, and the corned beef I used to love Subway when I used to eat to eat bread. Now I'm only posting about JJs because not many people know about their UNWICH. Yes, that means it's not quite a sandwich. It's a lettuce wrap and it's good for a sandwich on the go. True, the bread is better. I miss it, but this is a great alternative and I'm glad JJs is catering to people that don't quite want the bread or can't quite eat it.
I always get the number 1 (pepe), EZ mayo, EZ cheese, add onion and hot peppers. Yum! I know... Outback Steakhouse... BUT it's just good. I don't even care. After we travel overseas the tradition (newly founded) is to go to Outback Steakhouse. I love the Alice Springs Chicken and the Bloomin' Onion, which is not pictured because I couldn't find it on my instagram and I didn't want to sift through hundred of photos. You've seen it. You've had it. You know what I'm talking about. It's addictive.
Pictured above is the tilapia with lump crab. My friend said it's different now and it used to be more crispy and the crab used to be better. Maybe it's just the Canton location. She won't write it off just yet. She needs to try another location. The loaded chips were good. Basically everything here is going to be just good. What can I say? I love grilled chicken that swims in a sea of honey mustard, sauteed mushrooms and bacon. Don't you? :) |
