I don’t know what to say, except…. Not worth it. I went on Taco Tuesday, which I had seen exhaustedly hailed on Facebook by coworkers and other FB friends. “Checked in at TacoTuesday!” I saw it so many times I wanted to go myself. Cheap, delicious tacos? SOLD!!!! Well, tacos on Tuesday ARE cheap. But all of their food is bland. I enjoyed their tableside guacamole because fresh avocado is always amazing, but it still lacked pizazz and flavor. I was dying for hot sauce and other seasonings, but I made it through my dinner with coworkers and decided never to come back. The saddest moment was the fish taco. I love good fish tacos! And I’m not too picky. But these were fishy tasting with some mayo glopped onto cabbage. After forcing myself to eat the first, my friend asked the waitress if she could swap my second because the tacos weren’t good. She looked at my plate and gave a sneer- “well, it was good enough to eat the first one.” I have a comeback for her, too late to deliver- their restaurant was definitely NOT good enough to return… Birmingham prices and atmosphere with downright shitty tacos messed with my good nature.

Brother restaurant to Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup, Phat Sammich had it going on with the sandwiches. They were hot, phat, and delicious. However, they are gone. Long gone. :(
They served a couple soups that GCATS served and if you read that review you would know that I think they are yummy! The one thing I wanted to comment on about Phat Sammich is the chips. I know... so what about chips? Um.. they make them there and they are salty and seasoned to perfection. They would always sell out. The two times I had them they were so good that I kept calling and randomly stopping by to get some. So long Phat Sammy! I'll miss ya. Commonwealth is a place I'd like to spend more time in. It seems like a gem in a uppdity city. I'm sure you can guess that I'm not a huge fan of Birmingham. I have just found that i haven't encountered tons of warm nice people in the area. I know that can happen anywhere, but it's happened more in B'ham, more frequently.
There are a couple of spots that I do like, this being one of them. They dish up breakfast/brunch items and serve delicious coffee. It has a very clean, minimalist, modern environment. Their food is good and it feels comfortable to be there. However, when it comes down to breakfast/brunch areas and I have to pick... sadly this is not one of the first places that pop into my mind. I do often wonder if I would go here more if it weren't in Birmingham... It's one of the more casual-hip places in B'ham. It's good though. Check it out. Commonwealth's Website I love everything about this place. Except that it's in Birmingham (not a fan). They sell sandwiches and soup. Gluten-free options and some delicious photos from @indulgedetroit persuaded me to come in. I'm glad I finally made it. They did not disappoint. Stop on in and grab yourself one of their sandwiches!
