I was skeptical about this place when it first opened. I went there and they had a gluten-free option, which I was excited about. However, I quickly realized that gluten-free meant 'don't have the bun' and or 'don't eat a part of it'. I was ready to write this place off, but it had so much promise. The atmosphere is dimly lit and hip. I mean it's in the Ham so it has to be kind of hip.
I decided to give them another shot and I'm SOOOOO glad that I did. They fixed their sh*t and are crankin' out some good food. Pictured below are some of the faves, the Rock City mac and cheese, lamb and salad, meatballs and potatoes with huuuuge mushrooms and onions. I looked at the menu and I can't find the potatoes or the noodle bowl with meatballs. If they are not on the permanent menu I may just cry. These are what I would go back for. THESE are keepers. I'm undecided if it's a deal breaker or not if these are not on the menu anymore. The lamb was good. It was seasoned very deliciously, but parts were dry. I wouldn't order it again because of that. It's very easy to dry out lamb. The mac and cheese was good. I like the parmesan crusted cup it came in. You can get this gluten-free. Score! But with everyone having some kind of mac and cheese I really only want amazing mac and cheese and though this is good. It didn't rock my world. What did rock my world was the noodle meatball dish and the potatoes. I have to check them out in person to see if these are really gone. Rocky City Eatery I'll be seeing you soon!
