One night after a concert I stumbled in (literally) to Bar Louie and had these delicious tater tots (queso, spicy giardiniera, bacon, scallions). When I took the picture I thought it was amazing. Now looking at it... most of the tots have been eaten. Ha. Must have been a good night.

Let's be honest here... you aren't going to get a better happy hour than Roasts. They have 3-4 dollar bits and 4 dollar select beer and wine options. The wine is uniquely picked for the happy hour and it's ALWAYS good. This is a Michael Symon restaurant... of course everything here is good. The beast of the day was pork (pictured above in the tacos). The roast burger is soooo good. It comes topped with bacon, cheddar, fried egg, and pickled onions. It's really perfection.
The thing about happy hour is you have to get there early if you want a seat. When I say early, I mean 4:30pm on the dot. You'll see people waiting outside ready to barge in at 4pm when they start beverage service. It's not until 4:30pm when they start the food menu. Happy Hour runs from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. If you make it to the happy hour, you will most definitely walk out happy. I have never had dinner in the restaurant but I'm sure it's amazing. However, with the prices being what they are and me making what I do... I probably will not be eating there. :) I'm happy with happy hour. Thanks Michael Symon. You're the man! Roast's Website Nostalgia is a powerful thing… and since my family had taken our cars to Vinsetta Garage for years for top quality, family-owned service, I was beyond excited to see the transformation that became ‘Vinsetta Garage: The Restaurant.’ And they lived up to my expectations, originally. Still set in the original garage theme, it’s industrial meets hipster. A cool place to meet friends (though the acoustics leave MUCH to be desired.
The menu is creative, as the place is owned by the folks who own Union Woodshop. Same great Mac n’ cheese, quality meat, inventive sides and unique flavor combinations. At first, I even braved the long lines to eat here and just couldn’t get enough. And then, for some reason, I maxed out a bit. Why? I can’t really put my finger on it. It just became a bit… ‘je ne sai quoi…’ I don’t know how to put it in words. Unique, but not enough- quality ingredients and flavors, but not enough to make it the experience I thought it was at first. It’s not like the quality lowered, but when the newness wore off I find myself going elsewhere for ‘that great burger.’ You won’t regret stopping in, and you’ll probably like it a lot- as I did for a while. I’m also quite sure I’ll be back at some point even if it’s not a hurry. So take it for what it’s worth- it’s a great concept with a good execution that I just don’t crave. Vinsetta Garage's Website Just a hip place to meet friends. I didn't actually have a meal here as I was just getting drinks. We did order some appetizers. The soup, chick peas, and mozzarella was good. I read the menu and would love to go back to try out the entrees. The environment is very industrial new. It's situated in a nice area too. I need to actually try this place out and I'll update my review after.
If you try it out before me leave a comment and let me know how it goes! Craft Work Website Alright Kona Grill, I wasn't sure about you the first time I went. You were packed with business type people in suits and girls that were trying to hard. However, when I came earlier to beat that after 5pm rush I found that it was a pleasant environment. The happy hour is really one of the best. It's the only time I ever go and it's worth it every time. Let's start with the sweet and spicy shrimp (pictured above). It's really tasty, but no longer on the happy hour menu. I don't think it will help, but I need to make my declaration for Kona to put it back on the happy hour menu. It's too expensive on the regular menu. If I just showed up without knowing how wonderful it was, I wouldn't just randomly order it off of the regular menu. So, really Kona, you are hiding one of your show stoppers.
Ok, moving forward, their mini cheese burgers are perfectly cooked. I get them without the bun. Their Big Kahuna burger is just a bigger version of their sliders (not on the happy hour menu), but more expensive. Come pay 6 dollars for food instead of 15 dollars. Everything seems to double when off the happy hour menu. A lot of people like the egg rolls, shrimp tacos, and one of my personal favorites, the BBQ chicken pizza (6 bucks). These are all shareable items and are all equally delicious. There isn't one thing on the happy hour menu that I said, "geez, this just isn't good." Stop on in for their happy hour! If you're coming for dinner try the macadamia nut chicken. It's about 20 bucks for the entree, but excellently flavored and definitely a memorable dish. Kona Grill's Website |
