Leo's Coney Island is a favorite. It doesn't pretend to be anything fancy. It doesn't promise you wonderful delicacies that will tickle your palette and dazzle you. It is cheap good food. That's why I like them. They are consistently good and consistently cheap. Obviously their breakfast is a winner. On weekends if you go they will be packed with the locals getting a quick breakfast. I like their salads, wraps, and of course their chicken wings. Their salads seem to always be larger than my head. Their wraps are basically their salads in a pita bread. So, if you like the salads, you'll love the wraps too. The chicken wings are just fried deliciousness. I mean... how can you not like Leo's Coney Island. Yes. Some are more clean and efficient than others. The one by me is brand spankin' new. So, they are clean and fast still.
It helps that they are in walking distance from where I live. It's a nice stroll on a weekend morning to go get breakfast or brunch. Leo's will be seeing me again. Maybe this weekend. :)

Granite City has a decent happy hour. Another place that has Gluten-Free options, which is awesome. I live pretty close but I rarely go. Their food is good, but just not good enough to keep me coming back. The shrimp appetizer is my favorite. It's tangy and a bit spicy - fried and good. Non-happy hour prices here are just too expensive and the bar is busy. Maybe people go there because the beer is good? I haven't sampled so I can't comment on that, but since they proclaim themselves to be a brewery I would imagine they would be excellent, no?
As for the food, all of it (except the shrimp) blurs together for me. I haven't been unhappy with anything that I've ordered. I don't dislike GC, but I don't love it. Notice how I'm indifferent. I'll be back someday... but I won't be running. Granite City's Website Brio is an Italian chain, but one of those chains that is consistently delicious... as well as consistently expensive. What keeps me coming back (and not even very often I might add) is the best risotto that I have ever had. The sweet potato risotto is a must have. Make sure to add mushrooms to make it even more delicious than it already is. What comes in it you ask? Asparagus, pine nuts, sweet potatoes, mushrooms (if you get them), parmesan, and a little bit of magic. It's pretty darn good. This is pricey but you will have leftovers too! Everything else on the menu just seems too expensive to come here on the regular. Brio's Website |
