Ok, Sparks gets five stars in the category of diners and homemade food. So take that into account before reading this. This is not like a five star restaurant. This is a small family run restaurant in what feels like a one mile by one mile town.
How did I stumble upon this little gem you ask? My family has a cottage in this small town and I spend alot of time hanging around the up north area. For some reason I am always partial to family run establishments. This place has homemade everything it seems. The jam is tops (they make it). The bacon and sparks hash is what brings me back every time. Get a full order of cheesy, green peppery, oniony, hammy, potatoey deliciousness. The bacon is smoked and juicy. It's thick. Just like good bacon should be. It Tastes like it was just sliced off the pig, which makes it the best bacon I have ever had thus far. I don't joke about bacon. Ever. This is serious business. What's surprising is they have gluten-free bread, which is great. Im only surprised because it doesn't seem like anyone but Ann Arbor cares to have items like this. I've recently had their burger which quite possibly could be one of my favorite burgers. I don't know if it's the way they cooked it that time or I just was really hungry but it was goooood. However, the fries were normal fries. If they were the hand cut ones you could get at the dairy place down the street then the whole meal would be complete. If you are a first timer you should get sparks hash, the bacon, and choose a homemade bread for sure. Try every single one of the jams. They won't disappoint. While you're waiting for your food to digest look at their homemade jerky and pies. Triple berry is my favorite and honestly, I don't like pies or dessert-like foods so that says alot. *the dairy place is closed down now **reduced to 4 stars because of new management

In/Out burger is really as good as what people say. On a trip to go to Zion National Park, my friend and I borrowed my friend Jeff's truck (resident in Vegas and a police man!). Before we headed off into the night we stopped off and got a delicious burger. I would probably be a frequent customer if I lived near one of these nice chain restaurants. It's probably best that I don't...
Thanks Jeff! Not only did you introduce us to In/Out burger, but you helped make our spring break the best one ever. You're the best! :) I am probably biased, but I think this is one of the best burgers I have ever had. However, I grew up eating Blimpy Burger. It's just one of those things that when you think of your childhood and burgers you think... Blimpy. They are an interesting restaurant, formerly located in a house off of state street going toward the downtown area. There is an order to which you must do things. You must order and then sit down. Don't be thinking you can just sit your stuff down because you will get barked at. It's part of this places charn I suppose. You can have your burger any way you want it. Single, double, triple, quadruple... and top it with whatever they have going on. If you live in Ann Arbor you have more than likely already been here, but if you don't, you should try it out. I hear they moved. It's not really ever going to be the same for me. I would like to remember Blimpy Burger in the original location. That's where they have always been in my mind and that's where I would like to always remember. Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger's Website Nostalgia is a powerful thing… and since my family had taken our cars to Vinsetta Garage for years for top quality, family-owned service, I was beyond excited to see the transformation that became ‘Vinsetta Garage: The Restaurant.’ And they lived up to my expectations, originally. Still set in the original garage theme, it’s industrial meets hipster. A cool place to meet friends (though the acoustics leave MUCH to be desired.
The menu is creative, as the place is owned by the folks who own Union Woodshop. Same great Mac n’ cheese, quality meat, inventive sides and unique flavor combinations. At first, I even braved the long lines to eat here and just couldn’t get enough. And then, for some reason, I maxed out a bit. Why? I can’t really put my finger on it. It just became a bit… ‘je ne sai quoi…’ I don’t know how to put it in words. Unique, but not enough- quality ingredients and flavors, but not enough to make it the experience I thought it was at first. It’s not like the quality lowered, but when the newness wore off I find myself going elsewhere for ‘that great burger.’ You won’t regret stopping in, and you’ll probably like it a lot- as I did for a while. I’m also quite sure I’ll be back at some point even if it’s not a hurry. So take it for what it’s worth- it’s a great concept with a good execution that I just don’t crave. Vinsetta Garage's Website If I were Elmer Fudd, I’d feel right at home with the décor of Camp Ticonderoga. It’s your everyday, average hunting lodge complete with animal heads displayed on the wall and wood “cabinesque” walls. As a NON hunter, it didn’t bother me- and the menu looked varied and had some interesting options. So let’s give it a go, I thought. My friend ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich and I got the ground chicken sandwich with apples and goat cheese. The service was SLLLLLOOOOOOW and their food was… meh. Once you go “Slow’s BBQ” or Lockharts it’s hard to try someone else’s substandard BBQ sammich. It was just a boring sandwich like my mom would make (no offense mom!) except it was HUGE. Plenty for 2-3 meals. It wasn’t bad, just not the kind we like- shredded to oblivion with a bland BBQ sauce. And the chicken burger was the same. It reminded me of a similar chicken burger I had made at home with goat cheese and apple. Mine wasn’t better, it’s just that their’s didn’t have anything else to set it apart from just putting ingredients on a burger. Bland but edible.
Their outdoor patio looked nice, and they have special events and dinners that sounded fun. But for the price, which isn’t super cheap, there’s just too much else around for me to make a repeat visit. Camp Ticonderoga's Website |
