I used to come here after school to eat their buffet. It's just what we did in high school. It was owned by the family of one of the girls I went to school with and I think it has been sold to someone else, but I'm not entirely sure. The Lo Mein was always my favorite. Every Chinese place makes their food slightly different. I haven't been to one and thought that it was the exact same dish as another place. I'm picky about my Lo Mein. The noodles have to be the right kind, cooked right, balance of oils and seasonings, and have all of the right vegetables. There is just a certain flavor and taste that China King's Lo Mein has. I could eat this all day long. #sogood China King Expess Website

*Bad photo with old phone China Ruby is just one of those places that you go to in order to get cheap American type Chinese food. It's fine. No bells and whistles. It's a small place that has more carry out than dine in. If you want cheap Chinese that you will be eating for days go to China Ruby. China Ruby's Website Chung Ki Wa was my first experience with Korean food, and also set the bar that all others have failed to attain. No Joke: This is seriously good Korean food. And I say this knowing that there’s probably better Korean somewhere in the world, probably in Korea. But as for Troy, Michigan, this place is solid- addictive comfort food that I crave often. The first time I went, I ordered the hot pot Bibimbap (chicken). And now I have to get it every time, though I’ll try other meats next time. I wish they had shrimp, but they do have a seafood option. Let’s deconstruct this deliciousness: Crispy rice from the hot pot sizzle, a variety of sweet pickled vegetables, oozing yolk from the egg (which you stir in to finish the cooking process), and tender meat create the ultimate comfort food perfect for a rainy or snowy night… but honestly is just as good in the summer. Don’t forget to drizzle the sweet spicy sauce on top. Since eating this, I’ve tried Bibimbap at several different places and while still good, Chung Ki Wa holds the top spot. The hot pot is where it’s at. It also comes with a variety of fermented and pickled condiments including, of course, kimchi. It’s a great price for a filling meal and enough for two, especially if you order one of their many appetizers.
A little shocked at myself for not ordering their Korean BBQ specials yet… they always look so fun and delicious around me. You cook your own variety of meats over a flame on the table and eat it with rice and the sides. The only reason I’ve refrained is because of the price, which feels steep, especially when compared with their Bibimbap. But it’s always nice to have a meal to anticipate, and I can say with certainty that next time I want to splurge I’ll be back for the whole Korean BBQ experience. The good reviews are 100% correct- and I am grateful to live near this delight. I'm definitely a fan of this place. I would give it five stars on food alone, but I thought some dishes were ok and not great. Most everything I have had at this restaurant (from the noodles to sushi) has been pretty good. I opt to go here instead of some place like Little Tree because it's more intimate. Intimate in that, it's smaller, and you'll see the same people there the next time you go in. Service is fairly fast. The people are always friendly. I believe the person that owns the place used to be part owner of Little Tree at one point. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but their sushi tastes better than Little Tree's to me.
So you think that all Madison Heights, MI has to offer is mini-plazas and the ghetto Oakland Mall? Well, you'd be right, except for a few little gems. Buried deep in the pool of plazas (by deep I mean next to the Asian hair salon) you'll see Pho Que Huong, 13 mile and John R. Pronounced "fuh-quay-hoong", it's a small Vietnamese restaurant that has some charm to it. Don't judge it on the millions of food banners and horribly designed sign (that's the charm…). Walking in, I noticed it was populated with all Asians. Sooooo you know what that means? Asians eating Asian food - always a good sign. Ordered: #3 Bánh mì thịt nướng (pork sandwich) #35 Bún tôm thịt nướng chả giò (Noodles, pork, shrimp, vegetables) #4 Chả giò (egg rolls) |
Giving you a taste of what I taste. From gourmet to everyday. No pretentious bull - just good food.
