Having just Yelped What Crepe in order to refresh my memory, I learned that they closed their Royal Oak and Birmingham locations (Ann Arbor is still open). So I’m feeling regret that I haven’t made it here in a while, because this place has a delicious and well-executed concept. From their French press coffee to their stuffed crepes, What Crepe packed it in and created a unique, chic breakfast experience. The one drawback: Their Royal Oak location is small and it takes a long time to be served, but this is because their quality food takes a long time to prepare. There are a few standouts (which are still on the Ann Arbor menu). Their truffled chicken crepe is flavorful- add zip sauce for even more zing. The crepe I couldn’t escape was The Obvious- which included apples, chicken, pecans, goat cheese and spinach. If it sounds like a weird combo, it is- weirdly perfect. I’ll miss you What Crepe! I enjoyed my visits, but since Ann Arbor has so many food choices and is far away, I probably won’t be choosing What Crepe on my couple visits a year.

Prontos is one of those places that you stop in every once in awhile. I think they are very consistent in their service and food. I will say the Dutch sandwich (pictured to the left) is my favorite. Usually I get it with fries. They have a ridiculous amount of sandwich options. I'm sure that anyone can find a sandwich they like. I feel it's impossible to NOT find a sandwich you like. I personally LOVE the roasted garlic appetizer. Make sure not to breathe on anyone after! It's oven roasted garlic, chevre cheese, roasted red peppers on crostinis. Sooooo good. The cranberry apple chicken quesadillas are awesome as well as their loaded chili and baked potatoes. I always love this place when I stop in. The last time I was there was with three friends and one of which had some bad news recently given to her. She is a strong woman and is fighting the good fight! Every time I think about Prontos I think about that one perfect lunch we all had. We were all happy and healthy. I'd like to remember that moment and I'm glad that Prontos reminds me of that day every time I see it. That's what I love about going out to eat. I love the conversation with good friends. It's really what it's all about isn't it? Good conversation. Good food. And good friends. :) Prontos Website Little Tree gets so much play. Everyone in Royal Oak likes Little Tree. I am starting to think it's because this is all they know. I wouldn't say Little Tree is baaaaad. I also wouldn't say they are the best I have ever had. Serving up sushi, Japanese, and Thai fusion food they are on the corner of main street catering to the locals who want more than a burger.
The one dish I like is the pad thai. But I just came back from Thailand so I am not sure I will still like it the same. Tough to live up to pad thai that's made in Thailand... Thailand ruined me. Since I ate so much delicious food in Italy, I hardly even eat it here in the states because I am always disappointed. Little Tree's Website Yes. It's a coney island. Yes. This is a standard gyro wrap, but Athens gyro is fresh and has thick cut lamb. don't know about anything else at this coney island, but I know I love getting this every time I go in. I'm sure there are better out there in the world. I'm not proclaiming this to be the best one I have ever had, but if you are in the mood for a gyro and find yourself on woodward stop on in and see what's up.
Athen's Website I’ve been here a few times, and my experience ranged from A-OK to a big disappointment. Here’s the best and the worst according to me:
The Best: Happy Hour. I hope they still have half off wine and pizzas, because that’s enough reason to stop by in the early evening. I enjoyed a chianti and half off pizza very much, and had enough money with the savings to buy a lovely, fresh salad. My first experience had me coming back a few months later. The “meh….”: Came back with a couple of friend NOT during happy hour. Same good Chianti, pizza that was JUUUUUST this side of too expensive and not mind-blowing, and a meat and cheese plate that threw my meal into the ‘astronomical’ price category. The worst: I ordered Gluten-free pizza. It was beyond sad and into the ‘cheese melted on cardboard’ category. The conclusion: I won’t be back unless I’m with a group of friends who are dying for pizza during happy hour time. Assuming, of course, that this special is still happening. Pizzeria Biga's Website |
