If you want sliders then you go to the place that serves an abundance of good sliders. It's like if you want BBQ you go to Slows or it's somewhat equals. If you haven't been then you need to get there. It's in a kind of dodgy part of Detroit, but go during lunch and don't be scurrrrrred.
They have a list of sliders that you can try. They have some safe choices and some interesting choices. If you are in the mood to be a dare devil and impress your friends try the mystery meat. Like Forrest Gump said, "you never know what you're gonna get." Pair your sliders with rosemary fries and little sweet potato salad (refreshing and comes cold). I quite like all of the sliders except the fish. The fish was cold and seemed stale. It was sent back and Green Dot, being a business with class, came out and offered us vouchers for a couple free sliders when we come back. I think that's good business. I will keep coming back because they are classy and they serve up some of the best sliders in town! When you are looking at the menu you will probably think, "oh man! This place is cheeeeeap!" Yeah, it is... at 3 bucks a slider. BUT you can't just have one. 3 bucks times 7 items for yourself tallies up. Maybe I just order too much... if you've been there you understand. My recommendation is to order everything on the menu. Why not? Try them all out! Green Dot Stable's Website My faves: Truffle and her fries, coney slider, fried bologna, hot brown, bct, cheeseburger, and the corned beef

I was skeptical about this place when it first opened. I went there and they had a gluten-free option, which I was excited about. However, I quickly realized that gluten-free meant 'don't have the bun' and or 'don't eat a part of it'. I was ready to write this place off, but it had so much promise. The atmosphere is dimly lit and hip. I mean it's in the Ham so it has to be kind of hip.
I decided to give them another shot and I'm SOOOOO glad that I did. They fixed their sh*t and are crankin' out some good food. Pictured below are some of the faves, the Rock City mac and cheese, lamb and salad, meatballs and potatoes with huuuuge mushrooms and onions. I looked at the menu and I can't find the potatoes or the noodle bowl with meatballs. If they are not on the permanent menu I may just cry. These are what I would go back for. THESE are keepers. I'm undecided if it's a deal breaker or not if these are not on the menu anymore. The lamb was good. It was seasoned very deliciously, but parts were dry. I wouldn't order it again because of that. It's very easy to dry out lamb. The mac and cheese was good. I like the parmesan crusted cup it came in. You can get this gluten-free. Score! But with everyone having some kind of mac and cheese I really only want amazing mac and cheese and though this is good. It didn't rock my world. What did rock my world was the noodle meatball dish and the potatoes. I have to check them out in person to see if these are really gone. Rocky City Eatery I'll be seeing you soon! Corktown is poppin' with new hip restaurants. I'm glad that we now have another option with Slows BBQ is full or when you want a good greasy burger. Mercury burger bar caters to your burger needs. Do a little pre-gaming and get a burger and a beer in Corktown. There are 16 burger options, 10 sandwich options, AND 5 hot dog options. Yes. It's a classic Detroit restaurant with all the goodies. Let me tell you about my favorite part, they have EIGHT different french fry options. That seals the deal for me. Keep it comin' MBB! You'll have some competition soon enough because Corktown is getting to be the hip new area for the local hipsters. Mercury Burger Bar Website I think for a dive bar this one is tops. Decent selection of beers and food. I'm not sure it's the cleanliest place ever, but they have awesome burgers. If you want a decent burger and don't mind hanging out with some hipsters of the D come here and grab one. They are huge. Chances are you will take the other half home. It's pretty dimly lit and most people keep to themselves. They have one pool table if you feel the need to be recreational. I have passed by this place, but I finally went in a couple summers ago. From the outside this does not seem like a place I would go into by myself. Sometimes there's homeless people hanging outside of the entrance and/or random drunk people. That's always fun. =) [review written on Yelp years ago]
Photos to come! Let's be honest here... you aren't going to get a better happy hour than Roasts. They have 3-4 dollar bits and 4 dollar select beer and wine options. The wine is uniquely picked for the happy hour and it's ALWAYS good. This is a Michael Symon restaurant... of course everything here is good. The beast of the day was pork (pictured above in the tacos). The roast burger is soooo good. It comes topped with bacon, cheddar, fried egg, and pickled onions. It's really perfection.
The thing about happy hour is you have to get there early if you want a seat. When I say early, I mean 4:30pm on the dot. You'll see people waiting outside ready to barge in at 4pm when they start beverage service. It's not until 4:30pm when they start the food menu. Happy Hour runs from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. If you make it to the happy hour, you will most definitely walk out happy. I have never had dinner in the restaurant but I'm sure it's amazing. However, with the prices being what they are and me making what I do... I probably will not be eating there. :) I'm happy with happy hour. Thanks Michael Symon. You're the man! Roast's Website |
